The four substance that we explore can be grouped under the name of carbonate.
When each of the carbonate were put in our mouth it reacted by giving a taste.
Describe the Reaction:
- I had a twinkle feeling on my tongue and it started to go on my inside cheeks.
- The reaction was the same when the tartaric touch my mouth.
- felt like tiny things on top of your tongue.
- There was no reaction on some of the ingredients.
Acids that we find in the kitchen:
- Lemon
- Orange
- Vinegar
- Lime
- Soya sauceWhen you mix a substance that contains an acids (for example, vinegar, citrus, fruit juice, acids.) with a carbonate ( for example washing powder, baking powder, chalk, marble, eggshells, or limestone) the two react to from a carbon dioxide gas. It is the escaping gas that causes the fizzing. The reaction can be expressed in the following way.
Acid + carbonate → carbon dioxide + a salt + water 2HCI + CaCos --> CoCle + H2o hydrochloric acid + limestone → carbon dioxide + calcium chloride + water.
